Emergency Lighting Testing is essential in the event of a fire or power failure, and enables staff, visitors and customers to find emergency exits and escape routes quickly and safely, should the need arise.
- Emergency Lights require a 3 hour test to be carried out annually.
- A 1 hour duration test needs to be carried out every six months.
- A monthly flick test is required to ensure batteries and light fittings are operational.

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the installation of emergency and safety lighting.
In Article 14 of the regulations it is stated that:
“Emergency routes and exits must be indicated by signs; and emergency routes and exits requiring illumination must be provided with emergency lighting of adequate intensity in the case of failure of their normal lighting.”
